Peter Moffatt Cup (Over 60s ) Mixed Singles

The inaugural Peter Moffatt Over 60s Mixed Singles competition was  held on 9 May at Peel Sunset Bowling Club in memory of Peter with the competition  being sponsored by Peter’s wife Mary, family and friends.  Competition attracted an entry of  twenty four who played in sunny and cool breezy conditions.  The early rounds saw some very close scores and some excellent bowling. The quarter finals saw Doug Allan from the host club playing clubmate Diane Fleming with Doug winning 21-12; Lil Smith (Finch Hill) playing Gary Merrill (North Ramsey) with Lil taking the  honours 21-17; Mike Spooner (Ballaugh) playing Nick Kaighin (Peel) with Mike winning 21-9, and Gordon Corrin (Peel) playing Tony Lloyd- Davies, (North Ramsey) with Gordon crossing the line 21-19.   The semi finals saw Doug Allan beat Lil Smith 21-14 with Gordon Corrin beating Mike Spooner 21-19.

This set up an all Peel final between Doug Allan and Gordon Corrin, and in a to and fro battle Doug came out on top winning 21-18.   It was a fitting final as both Doug and Gordon remembered Peter with fondness when they started bowling for Peel Sunset.

Mary Moffatt gave a small speech, presented  prize money to the losing semi-finalists and losing finalist  before handing over the Cup and prize money to the overall winner, Doug Allan.
