Drewett & Hamilton win Inaugural Dave Quayle Mixed Doubles Open

Photo: Rachel PalmerCastletown Bowling Club hosted the inaugural Dave Quayle Mixed Doubles Open on Sunday, attracting a healthy 39 pairs with the competition providing an excellent day of crown green bowls and some closely contested games as the competition reached its latter stages.
As the field was reduced to the final eight, the quarter-finals saw Fiona and John Kennish (South Ramsey) progress at the expense of Walter McCarthy and Lynda Cadamy (Marown). Beverly Wilson and Andy Kennish (Peel and Castletown) also secured their place in the semi-finals, defeating Charlotte Clarke and Tom Kelly (Marown).
In the bottom half of the draw, Hannah Drewett and Nathan Hamilton (Castletown) continued their run with victory over Shane and Emilie Moss (Peel), while James Teare and Jenny Moore (South Ramsey) booked the last semi-final place after overcoming Sue Gawne and Mike Spooner (Nobles & Ballaugh).
The first semi-final saw Fiona and John Kennish produce an impressive performance against Beverly Wilson and Andy Kennish, running out 21–8 winners to book their place in the final.
The second semi-final proved a more closely fought contest, with Hannah Drewett and Nathan Hamilton eventually overcoming James Teare and Jenny Moore 21–14 to set up an all-action final against the Kennish pairing.

The inaugural title came down to Fiona and John Kennish against Hannah Drewett and Nathan Hamilton.
In what proved to be a thrilling conclusion to the first running of the competition, Drewett and Hamilton held their nerve when it mattered most to edge out the Kennish pairing 21–20 scoring a game winning three chalks with the score set at 20-18 to the South Ramsey pairing, securing their names as the inaugural winners of the Dave Quayle Mixed Doubles Open.
A fantastic final was a fitting conclusion to a successful first running of the competition, with both pairs producing some excellent bowls and keeping the contest alive right to the final chalk.
Congratulations to Hannah Drewett and Nathan Hamilton on becoming the inaugural Dave Quayle Mixed Doubles Open champions, with Fiona and John Kennish finishing as worthy runners-up.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who entered, supported and helped run the competition, and to everyone who contributed to making the inaugural event such a great success.
Club President Hilary Kermode made the presentation and thanked all the club members who helped throughout the day, as well as everyone who entered the competition. Hilary also gave a special thanks to The Sidings, not only for sponsoring the event but also for being a lifelong friend of Dave’s.
Nathan and Hannah echoed Hilary’s words, with Nathan giving a special thanks to Hilary and Juan for their invaluable help with organising the draw and keeping the competition sheet running smoothly throughout the day.
The competition looks set to become another popular open on the Castletown calendar.

CASTLETOWN A WIN OPEN AGE LEAGUE FOR SIXTH CONSECUTIVE TIME
Ladies Open Age league : The final fixture of the 2026 Ladies Open Age league was played last Friday evening, 21 August. With the top three teams of Castletown A, Marown A and South Ramsey playing the 4th, 6th and 5th placed teams respectively and only 80 points separating the top three teams, outcomes of these matches were eagerly awaited.
Castletown A put in a solid performance against Breagle Glen A winning the match 7-2, but more importantly scoring the points needed (170-112) to keep them at the top of the league. Chris Price, Hilary Kermode and Jenny Saunders for the Town ladies, plus Alison Stockham for Breagle all won to single figures. The other winner for Breagle was Nicola Cain who won to 14 against Rebecca Teare. Marown A put in a valiant effort winning 5-4 away to Peel scoring 172 points to Peel’s148 with Clare Cooper and Lyn Bolton winning to single figures for the Crosby ladies. Two very close games resulted in 21-20 wins for Peel’s Emilie Moss against Louise Tebay and Marown’s Debbie Leece against Olivia Harrison. South Ramsey tried their best to reduce the deficit as they won 6-3 against Mooragh Park (169-136) with Lauren Groen, Jenny Moore and Fiona Kennish for South plus Bailey McMullan for Mooragh winning to single figures. The other two winners for Mooragh were Lacey McMullan who won to 19 against Jackie Murley and Janet Monk to 19 against Sue Collier. Unfortunately for South, points scored were not enough to challenge Castletown or Marown for first or second place. Ballaugh A finished the season off well winning 7-2 against their B team (173-129) with Rose Waterworth, Cath Harvey and Alison Quaggan for the A ladies and Julie Cannon for the B winning to single figures. Elaine Fenton was the other winner for the B team when she won to 19 against Sherriee Pedley. Marown B completed the season in fine form scoring a full house at home to Douglas (189-123) with Jo Kelly and Emily Cooper winning to single figures. Sue McCourt just missed out on a win for Douglas when she lost to 20 against Lisa Pugh. Castletown B also put in a solid performance winning 6-3 away to Breagle Glen B (167-137) with Barbara Young, Marie Ashurst and Sonja Mercer for Breagle winning to single figures as did Karolina Urbaniak for Breagle. Closest game of the match was a 21-19 win for Town’s Susan Kerruish against Jacqui Elliott.
Final league places : Winners Castletown A on 4186 points; second Marown A on 4136; third South Ramsey on 4103 and fourth Breagle Glen A on 3786 points
Many congratulations to Castletown A on winning the league for a sixth consecutive year in what was an extremely close and exciting 2026 season. Congratulations and commiserations must also go to Marown A and South Ramsey for giving Castletown a run for their money. Can the Town ladies do it again next year? – who knows, we will just have to watch this space.
League Merit table : First place Shannon McMullan (North Ramsey) on 490 points; second Lacey McMullan (North Ramsey) on 486 points; third Janet Monk (North Ramsey) on 482 poihts and fourth place Louise Tebay (Marown A) on 480 points.
Many congratulations to Shannon on winning the the merit four points ahead of her sister Lacey. A great achievement by two of our younger bowlers. Future of crown green bowling is certainly in good hands!
NOBLES LADIES RETAIN OVER 60’s LEAGUE TITLE
Penultimate fixture of this seasons’ Ladies Over 60’s league was played on Thursday 13 August. Nobles ladies continued with their dominant form scoring a full house at home against Ballaugh B (126-65). Brenda Clayton was Ballaugh’s top scorer losing to 18 against Dee Lewis with three of the Nobles ladies winning to single figures. Finch Hill won 5-1 away to Mooragh Park B (121-66) with three of their ladies winning to single figures. Sole winner for Mooragh was Joan Henderson who to 16 against Lil Smith. Another 5-1 win was by Peel Sunset home to Mooragh Park A (120-78). Peel’s point tally was helped by Shirley Corrin and Terry Berry winning to single figures. Stopping a full house was Janet Monk who won to 15 against Beverley Wilson. Ballaugh A were also on good form winning 5-1 at home to Breagle Glen C (124-59). Dot Mylchreest was Breagle’s only winner when she crossed the line 21-19 against Alison Millard. Breagle Glen A put in a solid performance winning 5-1 away at South Ramsey B (119-77) with Linda Dawson and Mavis Franks for the southerners winning to single figures. Sue Collier was South’s only winner when she won to 14 against Angela Bennett. Castletown A won 5-1 at home to Onchan (116-71) with three of the Town ladies winning to single figures. Onchan’s sole winner was Sue McCourt who won to 11 against Barbara Young. Marown won 4-2 at home against Castletown B (109-93) with Lyn Bolton for the home team and Linda Dobinson for the visitors winning to single figures. Other winner for Castletown was Marie Ashurst who won to 18 against Philippa Taylor. South Ramsey A won 4-2 away at Breagle Glen B (116-90). Two winners for Breagle were Voirrey Curphey who won to 12 against Anne Buck and Jenny Cain who had a battle to the end with Joyce Ogden winning 21-20.
Final fixture of the season was played on Tuesday morning. Ballaugh A played their B team winning the match 6-0 (126-46) with all but two games being won to single figures. Marown also the season with a 6-0 home win against Onchan (126-74). Kay McKiernan was Onchan’s highest scorer losing to 19 against Elaine Dewhirst. South Ramsey A won 5-1 at home to neighbours Mooragh Park B dropping only one point (125-62). Getting the win for Mooragh was Mary Bruce who just pipped Helen Caley 21-20. Breagle Glen B put in a good away performance winning 5-1 at Castletown B (120-90). Sheila Preston was Castletown’s only winner when winning to 15 against Jean Thackrah. Pat Rigby just missed out on another win for Castletown losing to Mooragh Park B won 5-1 at home against South Ramsey B (110-57). Four of the Mooragh ladies plus South’s only winner Sue Collier, all won their games to single figures. Castletown A travelled the short distance to Breagle Glen A coming away with a 4-2 win (111-100) with Breagle’s Mavis Franks being the only player to win to single figures. Other winner for the home side was Trish Bull who won to 19 against Jenny Saunders. Nobles finished the season off in fine form winning 4-2 away at Finch Hill (117-60). Two winners for Finch were Brenda Williams who won to 13 and Wendy Cowin who eventually crossed the line 21-20 against Libby Andrade. Peel Sunset also finished the season with a good 5-1 win away at Breagle Glen C 122-67) with three of their ladies winning to single figures. Stopping a whitewash was Kay Primrose-Smith who won 21-17.
Final league places : Winners – Nobles on 3569 points; Runners up -Breagle Glen A on 3417 points; Third – Castletown A on 3365 points; Fourth – Ballaugh A on 3352 points. Many congratulations to the Nobles ladies for retaining the Over 60s league title, not losing a league match all season; a great achievement.
Merit Table : 1st Elaine Moore (South Ramsey) 630 points for, 199 against; 2nd Sue Gawne (Nobles) 630 points for, 205 against; 3rd Hilary Kermode (Castletown) 615 points for, 362 against, and 4th Janet Monk (Mooragh Park A) 612 points for, 231 against. Many congratulations to Elaine and Sue on not losing a match all season.
JENNY AND FIONA RETAIN LADIES ASSOCIATION PAIRS TITLE
The Ladies Association pairs competition was played at Castletown Bowling Green on Saturday 15 August, attracting a very healthy entry of 30 pairs.
Getting through to the semi-finals were Jenny Moore & Fiona Kennish (South Ramsey) who won 21-11 against Angela Bennett and Anita Roberts (Breagle Glen); mother and daughter Hilary Kermode & Hannah Drewett (Castletown) who won 21-10 against stablemates Kath Kinley & Tracy Moore; Zoe Pearson & Louise Tebay (Marown) who won to 11 against Kim Hargraves & Lesley Murray (South Ramsey), and Philippa Taylor & Joyce Ogden (Marown/South Ramsey) who won 21-13 against Voirrey Curphey & Jean Thackrah (Breagle Glen).
First semi saw the South Ramsey pairing of Jenny and Fiona take on Hilary and Hannah. Jenny and Fiona got off to a strong start leading 18-10 on the 11th end and despite a single and a double from Hilary and Hannah, Jenny and Fiona ran out to win 21-13 after 14 ends. Second semi pitted the Marown duo of Zoe and Louise against Philippa and Joyce. Initially, this was an evenly contested game with Zoe and Louise leading 14-12 on the 11th end, but with a strong finish and not allowing their opponents to score again, Zoe and Louise won 21-12 after 17 ends.
The final at the beginning was nip and tuck with Zoe and Louise leading 12-10 on the 9th end. Unfortunately for Zoe and Louise, Jenny and Fiona took charge from this point and with some exceptional bowling ran out to win 21-12.
Clare Cooper, Competition Secretary, thanked Castletown for holding the competition and providing refreshments throughout the day, and thanking those who helped in any way during the day. Clare then presented prizes to the quarter finalists onwards and the trophy to Jenny and Fiona, congratulating them on their win.
Well done to all, but especially to Jenny and Fiona on retaining the trophy.
LADIES OPEN AGE LEAGUE
The penultimate fixture in the Ladies Open Age league was played on Friday 14 August. Castletown A who are currently in top position were away to second placed team Marown A and with only 84 points separating the two teams and South Ramsey closely behind, outcome of this match was eagerly awaited. Marown plied the pressure on Castletown winning the match 6-3 (164-132) with Louise Tebay and Clare Cooper for the Crosby ladies winning their games to single figures as did Rebecca Teare for Castletown. The other two winners for Castletown were Kellie Maddrell who won to 19 and Kath Kinley to 14. South Ramsey closed the gap on Castletown and Marown slightly by winning 6-3 away at Ballaugh B (175-134) with three of their wins being won to single figures. Three winners for Ballaugh were Alison Millard who won to 18, Gill Clarke to 10 and Shirley Watling to 19. Ballaugh A won 5-4 away at Nobles (162-144) with Michele Cubbon and Alison Quaggan winning to single figures for Ballaugh. Belinda Barnfather won 21-19 for Nobles after a nip and tuck game with Sandra Buckeridge. Peel also won 5-4 at home against Douglas (172-162) with all games going into double figures. Niamh Stringer for Peel and Harley Garrett for Douglas both crossed the line 21-20 against Emma Sayle and Jo Corkill. Marown B won 7-2 away at Castletown B (177-128) with all games bar two going into double figures. Two winners for Castletown were Sue Peach who won to 13 and Sue Wilshaw to 17. The previous evening, Mooragh Park won 6-3 at home against Breagle Glen B (168-100) with six of the Mooragh ladies winning to single figures. Closest game of the match was a 21-16 win for Breagle’s Karolina Urbaniak against Bailey McMullan.
Going into the last fixture of the season (Friday 21 August), Castletown are leading the way on 4016 points – 52 points ahead of second placed Marown and 82 points ahead of third placed South Ramsey. And, its still all to play for in the merit as Shannon McMullan (North Ramsey) is currently top, 9 points ahead of her sister Lacey. Its going to be an exciting end to a good season of bowling!
SUE GAWNE WINS LADIES OVER 60’s MANX CHAMPIONSHIP

Photo: Mark BradshawOn Tuesday 11 August, the Ladies Association Over 60’s Manx Championship was held on Nobles 2 green in beautiful weather. Competition attracted an entry of 30 ladies; games played 21 off scratch.
Getting through to the semi-finals were Janet Monk (Mooragh Park) with a 21-6 win against Paula Firth (Nobles); Michele Cubbon (Ballaugh) with a 21-19 win against Hilary Kermode (Castletown A); Jo Smith (Nobles) with a 21-9 win against Rose Waterworth (Ballaugh), and Sue Gawne (Nobles) with a 21-8 win against Alison Stockham (Breagle Glen A).
First semi saw Janet take on Michele. Janet started off the strongest leading 18-8 on 20th end, but never one to give up Michele started to claw back some of the lead taking the following four ends to be only five points behind at 18-13. Janet responded by scoring a double on the next end and despite Michele scoring another single, Janet scored the point she needed to win 21-14.
Second semi was between stablemates Sue and Jo. For much of the game it was evenly contested with the lead changing several times and on the 23rd end the score was level at 16 across. This was the last time Jo scored as from this point Sue scored a double and three singles to take the game 21-16.
With both Sue and Janet playing well all day, the final was highly anticipated. Unfortunately for Janet, Sue commanded the final from the start playing exceptional lead bowls and not giving Janet a chance to get into her stride, won 21-6.
Presentation of trophy and prizes was made by Hilary Kermode, Ladies Association Committee member, who thanked Nobles for hosting the competition; Elaine Moore (Ladies Association Press Officer and sponsor of the competition) for the smooth running of the event and to all the ladies who took part in contributing to a great day of bowling before congratulating and presenting the trophy to Sue.

On Wednesday 6 August, current first placed team Castletown A and current third placed team South Ramsey both put in solid performances keeping themselves firmly in the running for the top spot with second placed team Marown A having their sit out. Castletown A won 6-3 at home against Peel (176-156) with all games going into double figures. Three winners for Peel were Helen Cowley who won to 14 against Chris Price, Val Allwood who won to 16 against Hilary Kermode and Joyce Kelly who had a hard fought game against Alison Kearsley eventually winning 21-20. Another nip and tuck game resulted in a 21-19 win for Town’s Jenny Saunders against Mary Moffatt. South Ramsey won 7-2 at home against Nobles (174-80) with six of the South ladies winning to single figures. Two winners for Nobles were Joanne Kelly who won to10 against Sue Collier and Colese Creer who won to 16, and the closest scoreline of the match, against Lauren Groen. Douglas ladies won 6-3 at home against Castletown B (161-140) with Harley Garrett for Douglas and Melody Marsh for the visitors both winning to single figures. The other two winners for Castletown were Sue Wilshaw who won to 14 against Katie Jacobs and Sue Peach to 18 against Emma Sayle. Breagle Glen A travelled to Ballaugh winning 6-3 on games but losing the match by two points (149-151). Ballaugh’s points tally was helped by Caroline Parker and Maria Dimsdale winning to single figures and their third winner, Michele Cubbon, winning to 12 against Trish Bull. Two closest games of the match resulted in a 21-18 win for Margaret Tasker against Alison Quaggan and Roz Cannon just pipping Cath Harvey 21-20. Marown B were home at against Mooragh Park winning 5-4 but losing the match by one point (154-155). Mooragh’s Janet Monk was the only player to win to single figures with the closest game being a 21-17 win for Marown’s Lil Smith against Madison McMullan. Interestingly, four of the five games resulted in a score of 21-15. Breagle B won 5-4 at home to Ballaugh B (174-148) with Voirrey Curphey and Jean Thackrah both winning to single figures for Breagle. Clare Cain and Zoe Durcan just missed out on wins for Breagle when they both lost to 20 against Gill Clarke and Gillian Malpass. Another close game resulted in a 21-19 win for Ballaugh’s Maggie Hughes against Jacqui Elliott.
Race for this year’s merit winner is gathering momentum as Mooragh’s Shannon McMullan is currently sitting on top spot on 453 points, followed very closely by Castletown A’s Hilary Kermode on 448 with Shannon’s sister, Lacey; Joanne Kelly from Nobles and Breagle’s Margaret Tasker following closely behind on 444. With only two fixtures left to play who will get the top spot!
LADIES OVER 60’s LEAGUE
Last Thursday morning, 6 August, 5-1 was the scoreline of the morning with five of the seven matches being won by this score. First of these was by Castletown B away at Mooragh Park B with the Town ladies dropping only one point (125-79) with all games going into double figures. Sole winner for Mooragh was Shirley Corteen who won to 20 against Sheila Preston. Closest games of the match were 21-13 wins for both Elaine McElroy and Judith Moore against Joan Henderson and Lynda Brew. Second 5-1 win and dropping only three points was by Peel Sunset home to Ballaugh B (123-72) with Mary Moffatt and Joyce Kelly both winning to single figures for Peel. Saving Ballaugh’s blushes was Brenda Clayton who won to 18 against Terry Berry with Gill Clarke just missing out on another win for Ballaugh when she lost to 17 against Shirley Corrin. Third 5-1 result was a home win for Castletown A against Mooragh Park A (117-86) with Kath Kinley and Jenny Saunders for the home team winning to single figures. Stopping a whitewash was Janet Monk who won to 12 against Sue Wilshaw with Maureen Hamilton and Elaine Slack both missing out on two more wins for Mooragh when they both lost to 20 against Sue Peach and Anne Oates. Fourth 5-1 result was by South Ramsey B home to Breagle Glen C (115-87) with South’s Jackie Murley being the only player to win to single figures. Kay Primrose-Smith was Breagle’s only winner winning to 10 against Anne Gale. Closest games of the match were 21-18 wins for Julie Stephens and Sue Collier against Dot Mylchreest and Steph Swift. Last of the 5-1 wins was by Breagle Glen A away to Onchan (117-71) with Breagle’s Mavis Franks winning to single figures. Stopping a full house was Rosemary Quirk who won to 12 against Alison Stockham. Closest game of the morning was a 21-13 win for Angela Bennett against Caroline Heathcote. Breagle B won 4-2 at home to Marown (101-94) with Jean Thackrah for Breagle and Marown’s two winners, Rosie Winckle and Philippa Taylor, winning to single figures. Mair Moore and Lynda Cadamy just missed out on wins for Marown when Mair lost to 19 against Jenny Cain, and Lynda to 18 against Voirrey Curphey. Nobles drew three all at home against South Ramsey A but took the honours on points (96-86) with Paula Garrett and Sue Gawne for the home team and Joyce Ogden for the visitors winning their games to single figures. Closest scoreline of the match was a 21-14 win for South’s Anne Buck against Jo Smith. A rearranged match from this fixture between Ballaugh A home to Finch Hill was played on Monday 10 August, resulting in a full house for the Ballaugh ladies (126-51); unfortunately Finch were a player short. Three of the Ballaugh ladies won their games to single figures with the closest games being 21-15 wins for Christine Macdonald and Julie Reilly against Lil Smith and Angela Crellin.
JEAN KELLY KNOCKOUT FINAL

On Thursday evening, 6 August, the Ladies Association Jean Kelly Knockout final was played on Onchan Bowling Club sponsored by the family of the late Jean Kelly. Match was between Marown A with a handicap of +16 and South Ramsey with a handicap of +20. With only 4 points difference; a good crowd in attendance and great support for both teams, a highly contested night of bowls was anticipated.
First jack on the green was Zoe Pearson for Marown against Kim Hargraves. Zoe started off the stronger and despite a spirited attempt by Kim, Zoe ran out to win 21-17. Second jack was between South’s Lesley Murray and Louise Tebay. Unfortunately for Lesley, Louise who has been playing well all season, continued with her on-form performance winning the game 21-6. Third jack pitted Marown’s Rebecca Kelly against Judy Kelly. Rebecca got into her stride straight away and not looking back won 21-9. Fourth jack was between South’s Jackie Murley and Lyn Bolton – this game could have gone either way as both ladies were leading well, but with a push at the end Lyn won 21-15. Fifth jack saw Marown’s Debbie Leece take on Elaine Moore. This was certainly a game off two halves as at one point Elaine led 15-3, but once Debbie got hold off the jack and playing some exceptional lead bowls, she ran out to win 21-16.
Score at this point in the match, including the handicaps was Marown 121, South Ramsey 83. With South having an uphill climb, tension around the green was being felt as only four games remained.
Jenny Moore for South was next on the green taking on Clare Cooper. Jenny gave South a fighting chance winning to 10 against Clare and South’s first win of the match. The seventh game was between Marown’s Helen Withers and Fiona Kennish. Just as the game between Debbie and Elaine, Helen got off to a great start to lead 14-4, but with determination and some good lead bowls, Fiona fought back to win 21-18 to give South their second win of the night reducing the deficit in points to 24. Eighth game was a battle to the end between South’s Gill Dixon against Lynda Cadamy with Lynda eventually taking the honours 21-19. Last game was between Philippa Taylor for the Crosby ladies against Sue Collier. Philippa sealed South’s fate with a solid 21-10 win; the final point being an amazing bowl by Philippa who played a bowl full corner to corner to rest on the jack – bowl of the match!
Final total (including handicaps) – Marown A 192 (7 games) South Ramsey 154 (2 games).
Presentation was made by Linda Wilson, Secretary of the Ladies Crown Green Bowling Association, who thanked the Kelly family for their continued sponsorship of the competition; Onchan for the use of the green and congratulating all the players on a good night of bowling before introducing Carolyn Kelly, on behalf the Kelly Family, to present the prizes to both teams and the shield to Jayne Smith, Captain of Marown A. Jayne also thanked the Kelly family for their continued sponsorship and support of the competition; congratulating her team on their performance and thanking the South Ramsey ladies for a good match.

Kennish & Bradford Win Doubles Championship

Photo: Arnie WithersThe Islands premier doubles competition the Association Doubles Championship was held at Marown Bowling Club on Sunday. The competition was played 21-up off a handicap of +3 for all competitors. The event was well supported with 26 pairs entering in a bid to win the coveted title.
At the quarter final stage, the home pairing of Matthew Keggen and Paul Kelly eased to a 21-11 win over Noble’s pair Jim Callister and Alex Yates, whilst another home pairing – Colin Kelly and Peter Jones won by a bigger margin, 21-6 against Breagle Glen pair Wayne Roberts and Trevor Quayle, who had just put out the current holders Glynn Hargraves and Jamie Box (South Ramsey/Marown) in the previous round.
In the other half of the draw it was an all-South Ramsey affair, with John Kennish and Bradford up against Tony Hart and Lee Dawson, as the former pair went on to win 21-14, having trailed 9-12, Kennish and Bradford scored four threes in five ends to secure a 21-14 win. The closest tie of the quarter finals was between Jordan Cain and Matthew Quirk (South Ramsey/Onchan), who were up against Marown pair Paul Dunn and Neil Withers. The home pairing led 17-11 after 13 ends, only for their opponents to close the deficit to two chalks at 18-20. Dunn and Withers went on to pick up the one chalk needed to secure a 21-18 win to advance to the next round.
In the semi-finals an all-home tie took place, with Matthew Keggen and Paul Kelly facing Colin Kelly and Peter Jones, with the latter pair securing their second consecutive single figure win as the cruised to a 21-9 victory to book their spot in the final.
In the second semi-final Kennish and Bradford had a tougher game, but were always in control against Dunn and Withers, as they eased their way to a 21-12 win.
The final got underway with Kennish and Bradford having won the title for the first four years looking to get their fifth win to match Withers and Dunn, with Kelly and Jones looking to pick up their maiden win in this competition, with only three different pairs winning the title over the first 10 years the competition has been played.
With the rain getting heavier conditions worsened throughout the final, in what was a low scoring match, with just five doubles scored during the entire match, the rest of the scoring ends being singles.
Kelly and Jones favoured the corners, whilst Kennish and Bradford preferred a shorter length. After five ends the South Ramsey pair had built up a four-chalk lead, to put the score at 9-5. The Marown men responded to win seven of the following nine ends in their favoured corners to lead 13-11. Getting back in on the following end, with Kennish put up good lead bowls to keep the pressure on, the South Ramsey pair went on to win nine of the last 11 ends taking a 21-15 win to secure the title for the first time since 2019, deservedly picking up title number five in this competition.
The presentation was made by Competition Committee member Brian Kelly, who thanked Marown Bowling Club for providing refreshments throughout the day, everyone who had helped with the smooth running of the competition and those who had entered.
