LADIES OPEN AGE LEAGUE
Wednesday evening (15 July) fixture 18 matches were played. Breagle Glen A travelled to Ballaugh B coming away with a 6-3 win (176-136) with Nicola Cain for the visitors being the only player to win to single figures. Three winners for Ballaugh were Gail Curphey who won to 13 against Angela Bennett, Shirley Watling who won to 17 against Elaine Hawkins and Alison Millard who after a nip and tuck game with Linda Dawson managed to get the point needed to win 21-20. South Ramsey also had a solid 7-2 win at home to Ballaugh A (171-140). Two winners for Ballaugh were Michele Cubbon who won to single figures and Caroline Parker who won to 19 against Kim Hargraves. Another close game saw South’s Lesley Murray just edge Sandra Buckeridge 21-20. Marown A were away to Mooragh Park winning 5-4 on games and by 10 points (143-133) with Clare Cooper and Louise Tebay for Marown plus Bailey McMullan for the home-side winning to single figures. The two highest scoring games resulted in Jayne Smith and Lyn Bolton for the Crosby ladies both winning 21-14 against Elaine Slack and Madison McMullan. Peel Sunset travelled south to Castletown B winning 5-4 on games and by nine points (163-154). Marie Ashurst for the ‘Town ladies was the only player to win to single figures with Lynda Wilson for Peel and Barbara Young for Castletown both winning their games to 19 against Sue Peach and Jo Corkill. Douglas hosted Nobles winning 6-3 (156-122) with Sue McCourt, Rebecca Jacobs and Harley Garrett for Douglas plus Larna Colquitt and Jo Kelly for Nobles all winning to single figures. Closest game saw Noble’s third winner, Jo Smith, win to 17 against Katie Jacobs. The final match of this fixture between Marown B and Castletown A was played two weeks earlier on Thursday 2 July resulting in an impressive 8-1 win for the Castletown ladies dropping only four points (185-90) with Chris Price, Kath Kinley and Hilary Kermode winning to single figures. Stopping a full house was Celia Joughin who won to 17 against Stella Watterson.
On Friday evening (fixture 19), Castletown A were again on dominant form scoring a full house at home against Breagle Glen B (189-82) with six of the ‘Town ladies winning to single figures. Closest game saw Hannah Drewett win to 15 against Anita Roberts. Also on good form were Marown A who won 8-1 at home to Castletown B (176-83) with five of the Crosby ladies winning to single figures. Stopping a whitewash was Marie Ashurst who also won her game to single figures. Sue Peach just missed out on another win for Castletown when losing to 19 against Jayne Smith. Ballaugh A won 6-3 (165-141) at home to the Douglas ladies with Cath Harvey for the home team and Harley Garrett for the visitors both winning to single figures. Two other winners for Douglas were Katie Jacobs who won to 14 against Sandra Buckeridge and Jane Lothian who won to 18 against Sherriee Pedley. Mooragh Park A made their way south to Breagle Glen A coming away winning 5-4 and by 10 points (152-142). Mooragh’s Janet Monk and Linda Dawson for Breagle were the only players to win to single figures with Lacey McMullan just pipping Breagle’s Katy Williams 21-18. Nobles also won 5-4 and by 10 points (146-136) at home to Ballaugh B with Gillian Malpass, Natalie Cubbon and Alison Millard for the visitors plus Colese Creer for Nobles all winning to single figures. Fourth winner for Ballaugh, and the closest game of the match, was Rachel Thomas who won to 19 against Rebecca Williams. Peel Sunset hosted Marown B winning the match 5-4 (161-121) with four of the Peel ladies plus Jo Kelly for Marown all winning to single figures. Peel’s Louise Horsfall had a tussle with Lisa Pugh before running out 21-19.
