JMS VETERANS SHIELD

The Ladies Association JMS Veterans Shield competition sponsored by the Ladies Secretary, Janet Latham, got underway last Tuesday, 1 September (handicaps in brackets). Breagle Glen B (+28) won 6-0 at home against Finch Hill (+31) with all games going into double figures; final score 154-117.  Onchan (+29) also won 6-0 at home against Castletown B (+43) with three of the Onchan ladies winning their games to single figures; final score 155-106. Ballaugh B (+44) put in a solid away performance winning 5-1 against Mooragh Park B (+42) with the closest game being a 21-19 win for Brenda Bowyer against home-greener Margaret Oxley; final score 164-115. Match between Nobles and Marown was claimed by Marown. Ballaugh A  (+15) won 4-2 and by five points at home against Mooragh Park A (+34). Two winners for Mooragh were Janet Monk and Elaine Slack; final score 118-113.  Breagle Glen A (+24) put in a sterling performance to win 5-1 away to Peel Sunset (+23) with Trish Bull for the visitors winning to single figures; final score 148-108. Another good performance saw South Ramsey B (+35) win 4-2 at home against Breagle Glen C (+45) with Janet Ketchell for Breagle just getting the better of Georgina Bellamy 21-19; final score 151-114. Castletown A (+13) were on exceptional form winning 5-1 at home against South Ramsey A (+32) with three of the Town ladies winning to low single figures; final score 126-97. 

Quarter finals were played on Thursday 3 September. First quarter pitted Onchan (+32) at home to Castletown A (+21). Castletown won 4-2 (123-98) with all games bar one going into double figures. Two winners for Onchan were Kay McKiernan who won to 19 against Barbara Young and Maureen Payne who just pipped Sue Wilshaw 21-20.  Second quarter saw Marown (+17) draw three all away at Breagle Glen A (+18), but Marown won on points 123-116. Breagle’s Alison Stockham and Marown’s Rosie Winckle both won their games to single figures with the closest game being a 21-17 win for Breagle’s Trish Bull.  Third quarter was a home derby between Ballaugh A (+15) and their B team (+38). Unfortunately for the B team, the A ladies scored a full house (141-87) with five games being won to single figures. Carol Holt just missed out on a win losing to18 against Rose Waterworth. Last quarter saw South Ramsey B (+35) win 4-2 at home (146-116) against Breagle Glen B (+33). Two winners for Breagle were Jacqui Elliot who won to 17 and Jean Thackrah who won to 10.
