JEAN KELLY AND PLATE KNOCKOUTS

The semi finals of both the Jean Kelly and Plate Knockouts were played last Thursday evening on a warm night with all teams involved being encouraged by their supporters. Jean Kelly Knockout semis were played on Nobles 1 and 2 greens.   Plate knockout semis were played on Peel and Finch Hill greens.

Jean Kelly Knockout : On Nobles 1 green, Marown A (+15) took on Ballaugh A (+29).  Match ended 6-3 to Marown, 193-165 . After the first five games, Marown had clawed back the 14 point deficit to lead by 25 points. Ballaugh responded by winning the next two games, but this wasn’t enough to stop Marown as they won the final two games to win the match by 28 points.  Debbie Leece for the Crosby ladies was the only player to win to single figures with the closest game being a 21-20 win for Ballaugh’s Barbara Graham against Helen Withers.  

On Nobles 2 green, South Ramsey (+20) took on Douglas (+54).  After the first five games, South had reduced the deficit to nine points so who would win the match depended on the remaining four games.  Unfortunately for the Douglas ladies, South won the four games to run out 6-3 winners, 199-169 with Jenny Moore, Elaine Moore and Gill Dixon for South winning their games to single figures.  Closest games of the match saw  21-19 wins for both Emma Sayle and Rebecca Jacobs for Douglas against Judy Kelly and Lesley Murray.

Final  will be played on Thursday 6 August  – Marown A vs South Ramsey – venue Onchan

Plate Knockout :  On Peel’s green, Marown B (+46) took on Mooragh Park (+29).  Mooragh won 5-4 on games, but Marown B won the match by six points, 189-183. Janet Monk and Katie Johnson for the Mooragh plus Lola Tebay for Marown won their games to single figures. Marown’s Grace Cooper had a tough battle with Grayse Blencoe eventually crossing the line 21-19.

On Finch Hill green, Nobles (+27) played Castletown A (+12).  This was another close match with Nobles winning 5-4 and by 10 points, 177-167, with Jo Smith and Joanne Kelly for Nobles plus Tracy Moore for ‘Town winning to single figures.  Closest games saw Nobles ladies Libby Andrade win 21-20 against Rebecca Teare, Sue Gawne 21-18 against Stella Watterson and Paula Firth 21-19 against Alison Kearsley.
