Ladies Millenium 4’s concluded after postponed by torrential rain

Photo: Collin HollandThe Ladies Millenium 4’s was completed on the morning of Sat 2nd September, due to having to be postponed due to horrific weather the previous month.
The semi final stage saw eventual winners Margaret Tasker, Trish Bull, Linda Cadamy and Lyn Bolton take on Debbie Leece, Clare Cooper, Helen Withers and Rebecca Teare. 45 v 35. Cath Harvey, Rose Waterworth, Loiuse Tebay and Maria Dimsdale played Jenny Moore, Gill Dixon, Kim Hargraves and Fiona Kennish 32 v 35.
The final saw Trish Bull 9 V 15 Jenny Moore, Linda Cadamy 15 V 14 Kim Hargraves and the doubles game Margaret Tasker and Lyn Bolton 15 V 5 Fiona Kennish and Gill Dixon. Which resulted in a final score of 39 V 34 to Margaret, Trish, Lyn and Linda.
The Ladies Association presented the Trophy and prizes and thanked Douglas Bowling Club for accommodating the 2 dates to hold the competition. Also thank you to the players for returning to conclude the event on a much sunnier day.

Castletown A maintained their lead at the top when they played Mooragh Park with a full house 189 V 78 (9-0) This is Castletowns 3rd year on the run winning the league and their 17th time winning over the last 30 years which is a great achievement.
All of the top 3 teams won their games with a full house which shows just how close it was at the top of the table.
In 2nd Place saw Marown A 189 V 62 Douglas (9-0) and 3rd Place South Ramsey 189 V 63 Castletown B (9-0)
Port St Mary 154 V 152 Nobles (4-5) Port St Mary managed to just take the win by 2 points with some extremely close games on the night.
Another really close game was Ballaugh 149 V 143 Port Erin (4-5) with Ballaugh taking this win by 6 points.
Marown B 161 V 139 Peel Sunset (5-4) Marown B just taking the win.
Well done to all teams on a good season. It’s been great to see so many youngsters playing so well each week, with a few taking their first game wins too. We look forward to seeing what next season holds.

Castletown A win Derby Match with Full House
Port St Mary A 84 V 97 Nobles (3-3) Jo Smith and Sue Gawne (Nobles) both had good wins to single figures. As did Port St Mary’s Brenda Harkard.
Castletown A were on good form when they played their B team.Winning all 6 games. Castletown B 70 V 126 Castletown A (0-6)
Ballaugh 99 V 88 Onchan A (3-3)
Mooragh Park B 51 V 121 Peel Sunset (1-5) Peel were in great form winning 4 of the games to single figures. Gillian Malpass was Mooraghs lone winner 21-16.
Finch Hill 89 V 93 Mooragh Park B (2-4) Both teams had a couple of single figure wins. Maureen Hamilton ( Mooragh Park) just managed to hold off Anne Hon 20-21.
Marown hosted Port Erin A who just managed to take the win from the marown side. Caroline Whitehead’s 21-6 win helped the Port Erin side edge enough points to take the win. Marown 94 V 107 Port Erin A (3-3)
Douglas A 53 V 126 South Ramsey (0-6) A full house for the visitors South Ramsey, with Judy Kelly, Elaine Moore and Jill Quayle all winning by single figures.
An extremely close game for Port St Mary A 84 V 97 Nobles (3-3) But Nobles Sue Gawne and Jo Smith winning 6-21 and 3-21. Nobles stretched ahead to take the win.
Thursday 17th saw the JMS Veteran Shield Quarter Final games played with the following results:

Ladies Open Age League results in a draw for Castletown B verses Port St Mary
Ballaugh 131 V 155 Marown A (3-6) Ballaugh hosted Marown on this rearranged date and it turned out to be an evening of gale force winds. Marown dug in deep against the recently strong Ballaugh side.
Nobles 163 V 131 Douglas (7-2) Sylvia Kennaugh and Sue Gawne (Nobles) both had comfortable 21-9 wins. Douglas side Shannon McMullan had a great 4-21 win.
Peel Sunset 162 V 149 Ballaugh (4-5) The Peel side played a great home green and although they only won 4 of the 9 games. They took the oval match win on points, with Linda Wilson and Joyce Kelly both winning on single figures.
Castletown B 135 V 135 Port St Mary (4-5) This was a second draw for the Castletown B side, who fought hard to win all those points to secure the draw, with the help of Barbara Young and her 21-0 win.
At Marown we saw the 2nd Derby game with the A team coming out on top 171 V 105 (8-1) with Elaine Dewhirst marown Bs only winner 21-3.
South Ramsey 178 V 130 Mooragh Park (6-3) South Ramsey are pushing hard onto Marown A for that 2nd spot on the league table, with only 1 game left and only 25 points between 2nd and 3rd place. Castletown A now sit in top spot a comfortable 32 points ahead of marown. The McMullan youngsters madison and Bailey played extremely well on the away green both winning 21-18 and 21-15 against very strong players.
Port Erin 68 V 189 Castletown A (0-9) A full house for the Castletown side just pushed them that bit farther away on the league table to sit them comfortably in top spot. I’m sure they will be chilling that champagne ready for the last game of the season on Wed 30th August.
Debbie Leece wins Barbara Lee Cup in emotional Final

Caroline Whitehead & Debbie LeeceDebbie Leece played exceptionally well to come out eventual winner to Caroline Whitehead, winning 21-19 in a very close final. Caroline took control of the game in the early stages leading 12-4 at one point. But Debbie fought hard to level at 18-18 on the 29th end. Debbie then took a 2 to put her ahead 20-18, but Caroline wasn’t ready to give up and scored a single on the next end 20-19. Debbie scored a single on the next end and lifted the trophy in a very emotional presentation.
12 Ladies started the day off. At the Quarter Final stage Debbie overcame Kim Hargraves 21-19. Sue Gawne 21-4 Clare Cooper, Charlotte Clarke 21-18 Jo Corkill, and Caroline overcame Margaret Tasker 21-9. In the semi final stage Debbie played Sue where Debbie was on a mission to the final winning 21-16. Caroline played the other remaining Marown home greener Charlotte winning 21-14.
The Ladies Association thanked Marown for hosting the competition and everyone who helped on the day.
Peel Sunset overcome Marown in O60’s Ladies
There were a few close games this week, the first being Marown who hosted Peel Sunset who were in exceptional form and took a win by just 4 points. Marowns captain Philippa Taylor won 21-1. Final result Marown 99 V 103 Peel Sunset (3-3).
Castletown B 95 V 104 Onchan A (3-3) Maureen Payne (Onchan) won 21-6 to help her team secure the win.
Nobles 91 V 102 South Ramsey (3-3) Marilyn Ellison (Nobles) won 21-9 and for south Ramsey Judy Kelly 21-5 and Elaine Moore 21-9.
Mooragh Park 84 V 81 Port St Mary A (3-3) This was the closest game of the day, with the Ramsey side taking the win by just 3 points. With Lots of single figure wins for both teams. This game could have gone either way and was extremely close right up until the final end.
Port Erin A were the winners of the day taking maximum points when they played their B team. The B team came close to taking 2 games off them with Sue Rickets and Sue Wilshaw both reaching 19 against their opponents. Port Erin B 61 V 126 Port Erin A (0-6).
Ballaugh only dropped 1 point 125 when they hosted Mooragh Park B 56 (5-1) Chis Sims took the Parks only win 20-21.
Douglas A were unfortunate to be a player short when they hosted Castletown A. Paula Garrett and Kay McKiernan both won for the Douglas side. But the strong Castletown team took the other 4 wins all to single figures. Douglas A 54 V 116 Castletown A (2-4)

Ladies Open Age League
Marown B 133 V 145 Nobles (5-4) Marown put up a good fight against the strong Nobles team. Winning 5-4 on games but just losing out on the points. Well done to all the new and young players in both teams all picking up points for their teams.
Castletown A 177 V Peel Sunset (7-2) The Peel side picked up a couple of good wins against the tough Castletown A team. Linda Wilson (Peel) won 21-14 and Shirley Corrin 21-16.
Mooragh Park 156 V 134 Port Erin (5-4) Janet Monk and Madison McMullan both won to single figures for the Ramsey side, as did Sue Wilshaw for Port Erin.
Douglas 174 V 138 Castletown B (6-3) Jane Lothian and Shannon McMullan (Douglas) both won to single figures, helping to secure the win for Douglas.
Port Erin A only drop 2 points in Ladies O60 Match
Port Erin A 124 V Castletown B (5-1) The Port Erin side were in fine form when they welcomed Castletown to their green. Sheila Preston (Castletown) just lost out 21-20.
Whilst at home Castletown A 120 V 48 Port Erin B (5-1) Gwen Tuck was Port Erins lone winner 15-21. For Castletown Kim Foy and Anne Oates both won 21-0.
Peel Sunset 107 V 87 Ballaugh (4-2) The Peel side have stepped up a gear this second half of the season. Joyce Kelly won 21-2.
Mooragh Park A 105 V 79 Nobles (4-2) Janet Monk and Gail Corrin (Mooragh) both had single wins as did Nobles Marilyn Ellison.
Onchan A 72 V 121 Marown (1-5) Unfortunately Onchan were a player short, giving Marowns Sue Hammond a 21-0 walkover win. Norma Cowell was Onchans winner 21-16.
South Ramsey 15 V 96 Finch Hill (3-3) This looked like the closest game of the day. Finch Hills’ Sue Calley just pipped Anne Gale at Ramsey 20-21.
Port St Mary A 121 V 76 Mooragh Park B (5-1) Trish Bull for the Southside won 21-3. The lone winner for the Ramsey side was Gill Hammond 16-21.
Top of the table clash in Open Age League
Castletown A defeated Top of the table Marown A by just 1 point. The Marown side won 5-4 on games.
Kathryn Kinley (Castletown A) won 21-4 and Rebecca Teare (Marown A) 21-7. All of the other games were pretty close as to be expected. Final result Marown A 154 V 155 Castletown A (5-4).
Nobles hosted Ballaugh and the Nobles side won games 5-4 but unfortunately lost the match on points 134 V 141 with the experienced Cath Harvey, Michelle Cubbon and Louise Tebay all winning well to single figures, as did Grace Gawne and Tina Hampson for Nobles.
Peel Sunset 152 V 161 Port Erin (6-3) Lots of close games in this match. But Di Benson and Jacqui Elliott both won 21-6 to help secure Port Erin enough points to take the match win.
Due to games rained off the previous week a couple of rearranged games were played. Ballaugh 174 V 121 Port St Mary (8-1) and Port Erin 179 V 106 Castletown B (8-1).
South Ramsey were in fine form on their home green when visitors Douglas played. With Elaine Moores 21-0 win and Kim Hargraves 21-1. Jenny Moore, who picked up last month’s player of the month, won 21-2. The Douglas side really had their work to do and managed to score 86 overall. South Ramsey 175 V 86 Douglas (7-2) Douglas winners Katie Jacobs 21-9 and Emma Sayle 21-19.
Castletown B 130 V 159 Marown B (3-6) Jo Corkill, Joyce Ogden and Celia Joughin all had single figure wins for marown. As did Linda Dawson and Susan kerruish for the Castletown side.
Port St Mary 174 V Mooragh Park 113 (6-3) Port St Mary secured 4 of the games to single figures securing them a good lead and overall win.
Relegation Battle Heats Up in Division One
The bottom four teams clashed in Canada Life International League Division One as Peel B went level with their opponents on the night, as they beat Marown C 8-2 at home, with the Crosby men still in danger of relegation. For the Peel men Tony Carroon was the best winner as he won 21-9, whilst Alan Cromwell caused the biggest upset of the night as he recovered from a 10-15 deficit against Tom Kelly to win 21-18. The two winners for Marown were Peter Kelly who beat Geoff Rice 21-8, and Conor Keenan who stepped into the team as he picked up an impressive 21-15 win over Rob Middleton.
The crunch clash at the bottom took place between Castletown A and South Ramsey B at the Crofts, with Town taking a 7-3 home win. For the visitors Ben Dugdale won the clash of the captains as he beat Jordan Drewett 21-17, Tony Dugdale beat Nathan Cooil 21-15, whilst Christian Caley was staring defeat in the face, however he pulled off an incredible comeback as he trailed 5-20 against David Quayle to run out with a 21-20 victory. For the home team four comfortable wins were taken by Aaron Richardson, Ron Williams, Ian Watson, George Foy, with Nathan Hamilton getting home 21-20 against Tony Hart.
League Leaders South Ramsey A stretched their lead to 10 points ahead of their next fixture away to Marown A, as they won 8-2 at home to Onchan A who were kept below 100 chalks (162-90). Winning for the visitors were Reg Temporaza who held off Stefan Kelly 21-17, whilst Matthew Quirk edged a good battle with Jordan Cain 21-19. Will Penhallurick missed out on a third win for Onchan as he let a 9-2 lead over John Kennish slip, eventually losing out 17-21. For the home team there were four single figure victories, whilst David Bradford earned a 21-13 win over Kevin Quirk.
Marown A came away from the Villa with a 3-7 victory over Douglas A, as they cruelly missed out on another two points with two 20-21 defeats, as Andy Cannell held off Glenn Boland, with Keith Rise getting the better of Sam Clague. The third win for the home team was from captain Merv Sayle who beat Phil Kelly 21-16. Four of the Crosby men’s wins were to single figures, with Paul Dunn having to battle for his 21-17 win over Gordon Wynne-Smythe.
Port St Mary A hosted North Ramsey A at Breagle Glen with the Port men winning 5-3 on games, the teams tied on chalks (141-141) to ensure the home team took a 6-4 win. Home captain Wayne Roberts held off Paul Allison 21-19, Dave Saxon beat John Cannan 21-20, with Dan McCabe seeing off Steve Walmsley 21-17, with Paul Skelly the best winner as he beat Gary Merrill 21-9. For the Mooragh men Allan Callow beat Robbie Cooil 21-8, Steven Waters won 21-15 against Tim Williams, whilst Rob Monk beat Tom Collins 21-13.
Marown B drew 4-4 on games with Peel A at Crosby, the home teams superior chalks securing the aggregate for a 6-4 win (152-126). Darren Kerruish continued his good form of late, as he beat Gary Smith 21-5, with teammate Matthew Keggen beating Dave ‘Barney’ Kelly 21-7. For the visitors Tommy McMeiken was the best winner as he beat Juan Killip 21-14, Peter Greenlees won 21-17 against Harry Barton, Dean Kinley held off Brian Kelly 21-18, whilst David Proctor got over the line 21-19 against John Kelly.
In Division Two league leaders Finch Hill A are 11 points ahead of second placed Ballaugh A following their 8-2 home win over Douglas B, with just 13 chalks separating the teams (139-126). Winning for the visitors were Dave Pease who beat Dave Jones 21-5, whilst Nick Firth beating John Qualtrough 21-8. For the home team Les Brookes was the best winner as he beat Steve Cook 21-7, with teammates Paul Dougherty (21-18) and Pat Maher (21-19) having to battle for their wins over Willie Cowley and Paddy Murphy respectively.
Ballaugh A were just four chalks off a 10-0 win, as they beat Noble’s A 8-2 at home. Two 21-19 wins were claimed by Juan Qualtrough and Mark Bradshaw over Mike Spooner and John Keenan respectively. For Ballaugh single figures wins were taken by John Maddrell, John Andrew, and Nigel Tebay.
Castletown B promotion hopes took a hit as came away from their fixture against South Ramsey C with a 7-3 defeat. Paul Routledge took the best win of the night as he beat Willie Corkill 21-6, Greg Barlow and Franz ten Donkelaar stepped up from the D team, with both players earning victories, whilst Richie Davies edged home 21-20 against Alan Phair. For the Town men Peter Oates, Derek Lewney, and George Peach all won with the latter winning 21-18 against James Moore.
Elsewhere in Division Two Onchan B took on their C Team, despite the higher ranked team losing 3-5 on games, they won the aggregate by five chalks (134-129) to avoid an embarrassing defeat.
Another draw on chalks (130-130) between North Ramsey B and Peel C at Mooragh Park resulted in a 6-4 win for the home team, whilst Port Erin A came away from Noble’s B with a 2-8 victory, with the Breagle Glen men having a game in hand on the teams above them as they look to close the gap.
In Division Three Noble’s D sit in third place, they were the only home winners this week as they beat South Ramsey D 7-3, helped by four single wins from Terry Bates, Alex Colquitt, Stan Cooper, and Roy Moore. Winning for the Ramsey men were Steve Kelly, Geoff Collier, and Billy Blair.
Ballaugh B closed the gap on leaders Port St Mary B, with a comfortable 3-7 victory away to Douglas D, whilst Port St Mary B came away from Peel D with a 4-6 victory as they remain top by two points on 120 points with just four games left to play. The result could have been better for the visitors with three of the Port players losing to 18,19 & 20.
Marown D slipped to a 4-6 home defeat over Douglas C, with John Ferguson and Greg Tomlinson winning to single figures for the visitors. Stu Mason responded for the home team with a 21-7 win over David Beynon.
Finch Hill B took home a 3-7 away win over Port Erin B, with Guy Smith winning 21-20 against Trevor Barker. For the Breagle men Alan Crebbin beat Samson Smith 21-3.
The closest game in Division Three was between Ballaugh C and Noble’s C, with another positive result for the visitors, as they came away with a 4-6 win taking the aggregate by seven chalks (140-147). Visiting captain Steve Cain beat Charlie Harrison 21-8, whilst teammates Paul Moore and Nigel Hinds lost out in close games.
