NOBLES LADIES RETAIN OVER 60’s LEAGUE TITLE
Penultimate fixture of this seasons’ Ladies Over 60’s league was played on Thursday 13 August. Nobles ladies continued with their dominant form scoring a full house at home against Ballaugh B (126-65). Brenda Clayton was Ballaugh’s top scorer losing to 18 against Dee Lewis with three of the Nobles ladies winning to single figures. Finch Hill won 5-1 away to Mooragh Park B (121-66) with three of their ladies winning to single figures. Sole winner for Mooragh was Joan Henderson who to 16 against Lil Smith. Another 5-1 win was by Peel Sunset home to Mooragh Park A (120-78). Peel’s point tally was helped by Shirley Corrin and Terry Berry winning to single figures. Stopping a full house was Janet Monk who won to 15 against Beverley Wilson. Ballaugh A were also on good form winning 5-1 at home to Breagle Glen C (124-59). Dot Mylchreest was Breagle’s only winner when she crossed the line 21-19 against Alison Millard. Breagle Glen A put in a solid performance winning 5-1 away at South Ramsey B (119-77) with Linda Dawson and Mavis Franks for the southerners winning to single figures. Sue Collier was South’s only winner when she won to 14 against Angela Bennett. Castletown A won 5-1 at home to Onchan (116-71) with three of the Town ladies winning to single figures. Onchan’s sole winner was Sue McCourt who won to 11 against Barbara Young. Marown won 4-2 at home against Castletown B (109-93) with Lyn Bolton for the home team and Linda Dobinson for the visitors winning to single figures. Other winner for Castletown was Marie Ashurst who won to 18 against Philippa Taylor. South Ramsey A won 4-2 away at Breagle Glen B (116-90). Two winners for Breagle were Voirrey Curphey who won to 12 against Anne Buck and Jenny Cain who had a battle to the end with Joyce Ogden winning 21-20.
Final fixture of the season was played on Tuesday morning. Ballaugh A played their B team winning the match 6-0 (126-46) with all but two games being won to single figures. Marown also the season with a 6-0 home win against Onchan (126-74). Kay McKiernan was Onchan’s highest scorer losing to 19 against Elaine Dewhirst. South Ramsey A won 5-1 at home to neighbours Mooragh Park B dropping only one point (125-62). Getting the win for Mooragh was Mary Bruce who just pipped Helen Caley 21-20. Breagle Glen B put in a good away performance winning 5-1 at Castletown B (120-90). Sheila Preston was Castletown’s only winner when winning to 15 against Jean Thackrah. Pat Rigby just missed out on another win for Castletown losing to Mooragh Park B won 5-1 at home against South Ramsey B (110-57). Four of the Mooragh ladies plus South’s only winner Sue Collier, all won their games to single figures. Castletown A travelled the short distance to Breagle Glen A coming away with a 4-2 win (111-100) with Breagle’s Mavis Franks being the only player to win to single figures. Other winner for the home side was Trish Bull who won to 19 against Jenny Saunders. Nobles finished the season off in fine form winning 4-2 away at Finch Hill (117-60). Two winners for Finch were Brenda Williams who won to 13 and Wendy Cowin who eventually crossed the line 21-20 against Libby Andrade. Peel Sunset also finished the season with a good 5-1 win away at Breagle Glen C 122-67) with three of their ladies winning to single figures. Stopping a whitewash was Kay Primrose-Smith who won 21-17.
Final league places : Winners – Nobles on 3569 points; Runners up -Breagle Glen A on 3417 points; Third – Castletown A on 3365 points; Fourth – Ballaugh A on 3352 points. Many congratulations to the Nobles ladies for retaining the Over 60s league title, not losing a league match all season; a great achievement.
Merit Table : 1st Elaine Moore (South Ramsey) 630 points for, 199 against; 2nd Sue Gawne (Nobles) 630 points for, 205 against; 3rd Hilary Kermode (Castletown) 615 points for, 362 against, and 4th Janet Monk (Mooragh Park A) 612 points for, 231 against.
