Breagle Glen A Win JMS Veterans Shield
Breagle Glen A faced Marown A in the final of the JMS Shield at Ballaugh on Thursday morning, whilst the Breagle Ladies lost 4-2 on games, they won on the all-important chalks (handicaps included) 130-129.
The first three games on the green saw the Marown ladies take a three-nil lead with Lynda Cadamy winning to 18 against Breagle A Captain Caroline Whitehead; Lyn Bolton winning to 18 against Trish Bull, and Marown Captain Philippa Taylor winning to 16 against Linda Dawson.
But as they say, points make prizes and that’s exactly what the Breagle ladies did with the final three jacks on the green making the difference with Breagle’s Margie Tasker and Angie Bennett winning to 7 and 18 against Elaine Dewhirst and Celia Joughin putting them in touching distance of Marown and the finish line.
With the Breagle ladies needing to reach 15 to win the match, last jack on the green pitted Voirrey Curphey for Breagle against Mair Moore and although Mair won the game Voirrey got the all-important 15 points needed for the Breagle ladies to take the title for the first time. Well done to both teams for treating the spectators to some excellent bowling and keeping the suspense going to the very end.
Chris Holland, Competition Secretary, thanked both teams for a great morning of bowling, Ballaugh Bowling Club for hosting and providing refreshments throughout the event before introducing Janet Latham, sponsor of the competition and Treasurer of the Ladies Association to present the trophy and prizes. Janet reiterated Chris’s comments congratulating the Breagle ladies on their maiden title win; she then presented both teams with their prizes and Caroline Whitehead, Captain of Breagle A with the trophy.
