SECOND MAXIMUM OF THE SEASON FOR FINCH OVER 60’s LADIES
Ladies Over 60s League: On Tuesday 1 July, Finch Hill ladies scored their second maximum of the season away to Mooragh Park B (126-50) with their first maximum being at home to the same team. All games apart from one were won to single figures with Mooragh’s Peggy Freeman just missing out on a win for her team when she lost to 17 against Anne Hon. Onchan had a good 5-1 home win (124-88) against Ballaugh B. Stopping a full house was Alison Millard who won to 19 against Wendy McDowell. Ballaugh nearly made the scoreline 4-2 when Brenda Clayton lost to 20 against Caroline Heathcote. Breagle Glen A appear to be gathering momentum as the season goes winning 5-1 (121-80) against stablemates Breagle Glen B. Lone winner for the B team was Jacqui Elliott who won to 16 against Alison Stockham with Mavis Franks for the A team being the only player to win to single figures. Another team on form are the Nobles ladies who visited Peel coming away with a 4-2 win (119-77) with Paula Firth and Sue Gawne for Nobles winning their games to single figures. The two winners for Peel were Joyce Kelly and Shirley Corrin, who won to 17 and 18 against Libby Andrade and Dee Lewis. The improving new team of South Ramsey B made their way south to Castletown B losing 4-2 on games and by only three points (95-92). Marie Ashurst for Town and Sue Collier for South both won to single figures with Jackie Murley, the other winner for South, winning to 10 against Sheila Preston. Ballaugh A hosted Castletown A and although the match finished three all, Ballaugh won on points (118-87). Score for Ballaugh was helped by Christine McDonald winning her game to single figures. Closest game of the match saw Hilary Kermode get the point needed to win 21-20 against Ballaugh’s Beryl Bridson. South Ramsey A put in a good performance winning 5-1 (111-79) at home to neighbours Mooragh Park A. Janet Monk was the sole winner for Mooragh winning her game to single figures, as did Joyce Ogden and Elaine Moore for South. Judy Kelly for South had a good tussle with Elaine Slack eventually winning to 17. The following morning Marown visited Breagle Glen C coming away with a 4-2 win (111-82) with Kath Parker and Philippa Taylor for the Crosby ladies winning their games to single figures. Edwina Reid and Kay Primrose-Smith were the two winners for Breagle winning to 16 and 11 against Gill Christian and Sue Hammond.
On Thursday morning, Nobles put in a solid performance at home to Breagle Glen A winning 5-1 (118-87) with Paula Garrett and Jo Smith winning their games to single figures. Stopping the whitewash was Mavis Franks who won to 13 against Sylvia Kennaugh. Trish Bull and Linda Dawson for Breagle just missed out on wins for their team when they lost to 18 and 17 against Paula Firth and Caroline Corlett. Marown A were also on form winning 5-1 and dropping only two points (124-96) at home to Ballaugh A. Lone winner for Ballaugh was Julie Reilly who won to 19 against Celia Joughin. Two nip and tuck games saw Crosby’s Lyn Bolton and Elaine Dewhurst both cross the line 21-19 against Christine McDonald and Pat Mason. Mooragh Park A won 4-2 at home (113-79) to Onchan. Karen McGurgan and Janet Monk for Mooragh both won their games to single figures whilst the two winners for Onchan were Jane Lothian and Maureen Payne who won their games to 12 and 17 against Joy Morris and Lynn Mayers. Home derby between Breagle Glen B and C resulted in a three all draw with the C team winning on points (76-101). The three winners for the C team all won to single figures as did Jacqui Elliott for the B team. The other two winners for the B won to 14 and 16. Ballaugh B were at home to Castletown B winning 4-2 (113-97) with Gail Curphey for Ballaugh being the only player to win to single figures. A good tussle took place between Ballaugh’s Carol Holt and Town’s Pat Rigby with Carol scoring the final point to win 21-20. Castletown A played host to Mooragh Park B scoring a full house (126-42). Unfortunately, the Mooragh ladies were a player short. Sue Wilshaw, Jenny Saunders and Hilary Kermode all won to single figures whilst Mooragh’s Diane Robinson put in a spirited performance before losing to 16 against Anne Oates. Peel ladies travelled east to South Ramsey B coming away with a 5-1 win (114-64). Sue Collier was the only winner for South winning her game to single figures, as did Val Allwood, Shirley Corrin and Joyce Kelly for Peel. Closest game of the match saw South’s Ann Gale lose to 15 against Terry Berry. Finch Hill were at home to South Ramsey A with the match finishing three all but South took the win on points (93-79). Finch’s Brenda Williams had a good game against Lorraine Moore finishing strong at the end to win 21-14.
