CLOSE AT THE TOP OF OVER 60’s LADIES LEAGUE

Ladies Over 60s League: Last Tuesday saw Ballaugh A score maximum points away to Castletown B (58-126) with three of Ballaugh’s wins being won to single figures. Rose Waterworth had a good game against Town’s Judith Moore eventually winning 21-16. Castletown A travelled to Ballaugh B winning 5-1 dropping only two points (89-124). Lone winner for Ballaugh was Gail Curphey who won to 19 against Sue Peach. Onchan put in a solid performance winning 5- 1 at home and dropping only five points against Mooragh Park B (121-48). Four of Onchan’s wins were won to single figures with lone winner for Mooragh, Mary Bruce, winning her game to 16 against Anne Bannan. Nobles ladies also put in a good home performance against Breagle Glen B winning 5-1 and dropping five points (121-68). Saving the whitewash was Pauline Worrall who won to 16 against Jane Robinson. Marown travelled to South Ramsey B coming away with a 5-1 win dropping eight points (65-118). Four of Marown’s wins were won to single figures with Sue Collier being the lone winner for South winning to 13 against Celia Joughin. Mooragh Park A hosted Finch Hill with the match finishing three all, but Mooragh winning on points (112-100). Mooragh just missed out on two more wins when Karen Bentley and Gillian Malpass lost to 19 and 18 against Brenda Williams and Wendy Cowin. Breagle Glen C made their way to Peel coming away with a three all draw but losing on points (106-85). Joyce Kelly and Shirley Corrin for Peel both won to single figures, with Breagle’s Dot Mylchreest crossing the line 21-15 against Beverly Wilson. South Ramsey A travelled south losing 4-2 to an on-form  Breagle Glen A (116-97). Judy Kelly just missed out on making the match three all when she lost to 20 against Alison Stockham.

Thursday morning’s fixtures once again saw a maximum being scored, this time by Marown who were at home to Ballaugh B (126-55).  Four of Marown’s games were won to single figures with the closest game being Gill Christian winning to 14 against Carol Holt. Ballaugh A won 5-1 at home against Peel dropping only six points (120-73). Lone winner for Peel was Mary Moffatt who won to 15 against Barbara Graham. Val Alwood just missed out on another win for Peel when she lost to 19 against Rose Waterworth. Castletown A had a good 5-1 home win against Mooragh Park A (109-58). Lone winner for Mooragh was Janet Monk who won to 4, with Town’s Joy Stephens, Jenny Saunders and Hilary Kermode also winning to single figures. Nobles visited South Ramsey A winning 4-2 and by 8 points (91-99). Judy Kelly and Elaine Moore for South, plus Sue Gawne for Nobles all won to single figures with Noble’s Caroline Corlett just pipping Gillian Jopson to the post 21-19. Castletown B made their way north to Mooragh Park B putting in a good performance winning 5 games to 1 (68-116). Lone winner for Mooragh was Peggy Freeman who won to 11 against Margaret Davies. Breagle Glen B had a good 5-1 home win against South Ramsey B (117-60). Ann Gale just missed out on a win for South when she lost to 18 against Pauline Worrall. Lone winner for South was Sue Collier who won to 12 against Voirrey Curphey. Finch Hill put in a solid performance winning 5-1 at home against Onchan (114-67). Lil Smith and Wendy Cowin for Finch, plus Onchan’s only winner Maureen Payne all won to single figures. The following morning (Friday) local derby between Breagle Glen C and A resulted in a 4-2 win for the A team dropping only three points (90-123). Margie Tasker and Trish Bull nearly made it a full house when they narrowly lost to 19 and 20 against Chris Holland and Gwen Tuck. Caroline Whitehead for the A team was the only player to win to single figures.

Ladies Open age League: Last Thursday evening, local derby between Castletown A and B saw the A ladies score maximum points (189-92). Stella Watterson, Hilary Kermode and Hannah Drewett for the A team won their games to single figures with Amanda Lawler and Kim Foy (A) both winning to 16 after good battles against Rachel Palmer and Sue Peach. On Friday evening, South Ramsey travelled to Crosby coming away with a solid 7-2 win against Marown B dropping only two points (114-187). Joyce Ogden, Gill Dixon and Lauren Groen for South all won to single figures. Two winners for Marown, after hard fought games, were Emily Cooper and Rosie Winckle who both won to 20 against Kim Hargraves and Gillian Jopson. Ballaugh A made their way south to Breagle Glen A winning 6-3 (175-144). Elena Dimsdale and Caroline Parker for Ballaugh just missed out on winning their games when they lost to 20 and 19 against Caroline Whitehead and Mavis Franks. Christine McDonald and Michele Cubbon for Ballaugh were the only two players to win their games to single figures. Douglas played host to Breagle Glen B winning 5-4 and by eight points (152-144). Mel Molesworth and Paula Garrett for Douglas plus Angie Bennett and Hannah Leece for Breagle all won to single figures with Douglas’s Harley Garrett just crossing the line 21-18 against Molly Howland. Matches between Marown A vs Nobles and Peel vs Mooragh Park have been rearranged for Thursday 22 May and Tuesday 27 May respectively.
